Most mornings, David Lima wakes up with balloons on the brain.

“My balloon radar is always on,” says the airy professional balloon twister who works his “Bambaballoon” business out of a studio in his Hillsdale home.
Hillsdale’s David Lima, pictured with one of his creations, joined 74 fellow balloon artists from around the world to participate in Balloon Manor 2014 in Rochester, N.Y. last week.
The team created a five-story sculpture of Jack and the Beanstalk using more than 50,000 balloons.
Ninja turtles, bunny rabbits, a bicycle, and a New Year’s Eve-inspired chandelier are just some of the many balloon sculptures Lima creates via requests from children or from his own imagination. None, however, tops the 55,000-balloon sculpture entitled, “The VERY Tall Tale of Jack and his Beanstalk,” which he created with 74 other balloon artists from around the world for the Fifth Annual Balloon Manor 2014. Held this past week in Rochester, N.Y., the event was arranged by Airigami Founder Larry Moss, who Lima met at the “TJam On the Road 2013” balloon competition in November.
